As we approach early May and the accompanying AP exams, Eagan High School (EHS) has prepared its annual Encore performance, Seize the Day. Featuring some of EHS’s best singers, dancers, and players, it’s a show you don’t want to miss.
“We picked a whole bunch of songs that we thought would be good for the show and then looked over the songs,” said choir director and co-director of Encore, Mr. Cox. “There was this common theme of ‘seizing the moment’, living in the present, looking forward to the future, reaching for your goals.”
All the students involved in Encore are also excited to present it, each of them working hard to bring Eagan High School the best. Caden Brassow and Diya Nayak, featured dancers and singers of the vocal company, both expressed how long they spent preparing for all their numbers.
“A lot. I don’t know if I could put a number on it,” stated Brasow. “There was a month period where I was working on one of my songs for an hour and a half a day, to make sure that everything was perfect, and that’s of course outside of allotted rehearsal time.”
Nayak also adds that, “Personally, I know both of us [Brasow and Nayak] put in a lot of work outside of rehearsal time, to make sure songs are as good as they can be.”
The singers and dancers aren’t the only ones spending lots of time on Encore. The live band in the pit also played their part to bring their A-game to this performance.
Kyle Ahrens, lead trumpet player, said that, “With the jazz band alone, we have rehearsal a couple times a week, just to put the band parts together. Then a week and a half before the show starts, we start merging with the cast, and then we start having rehearsals every day after school for three to four hours, to get a lot of good work done on the show.”
Encore has already performed this past weekend, so if you don’t want to miss this year’s wonderful songs and dances, make sure you book tickets. The last three Encore shows will take place on May 1, 2, and 3 at 7:00 PM, with tickets priced from $5.00 to $9.00 each. See it now, before it’s gone, Wildcats!
