A few weeks ago, the Eagan Unified basketball team had a phenomenal victory at the state tournament, defending their title from last year! This is an amazing accomplishment for our unified club, so I asked Tabitha Booker, one of the team captains, some questions about how she felt about the game and her experience being involved the unified club.
- How did it feel to win the unified state basketball championship?
“It felt great honestly. I was honestly nervous if we were gonna win or not because of how close the scores were during the tournament but when we won the championship game, I was so happy.”
- How long have you been on the unified basketball team, and how did you get involved?
“I’ve been in the basketball team since they became division A the previous school year. I got involved in the team through being a unified captain.”
- What is your favorite part of being in the unified club?
“My favorite part of being in the unified club is just interacting with everyone and doing things together like the unified parties, and being in the fans section during a Special Olympics game that our team is involved with.”
- What advice would you give to students hoping to join unified in future years?
“I say if you’re curious about the club and want to know more, go check it out, because it might be the best thing you’ve ever done in high school. It was definitely life-changing for me even being a unified captain myself and hearing from the unified partners, they’ve said themselves that it was definitely one of the best things they’ve done in high school.”
