Spring is an exciting time at EHS as the weather warms up and many outdoor sports begin their seasons. Softball, a popular EHS spring sport, just began their season a couple of weeks ago and I was interested in hearing about some thoughts about the season from the captains of the team. I interviewed softball captains Lydia Terborg, Jayden Turner, and Ellie Marsden so that I could hear about their thoughts and hopes for this season.
- How long have you been involved in Eagan’s softball program and what is your favorite memory from your time in this program?
Lydia- “I have played Eagan fastpitch softball since I was in first grade and have played for the high school for 6 years. My favorite memory was placing third in our section last year.”
Jayden- “I have been in the Eagan program since first grade and have been playing for the high school program for 6! My favorite memory is watching one of my former teammates hit a grand slam for a comeback win!”
Ellie- “I have been playing Eagan softball since second grade and have played for the high school for 6 years. My favorite memory is helping out with kids camps in the summer!”
- How has your experience of being a captain on the softball team been so far?
Lydia- “The experience has been very fun and rewarding, and has also challenged me to get out of my comfort zone.”
Jayden- “This has come with a lot of responsibility and has challenged me to use my voice more.”
Ellie- “This experience has got me to connect with so many more people in this program and it’s been so fun getting to know so many new people!”
- How do you feel about this season so far?
Lydia- “I think we have a lot of good things to build on and everyone in our conference has a chance at beating anyone else.”
Jayden- “It’s super early in the season so a lot can change from here on out. We have the talent to be successful so we just need to keep pushing forward and work together as a team.”
Ellie- “I think as a team we have a lot of talent but we want to continue to get better and I’m excited to see where we take it this year.”
- What are your hopes and goals for future games this season?
Lydia- “My goals for our team going forward would just be to continue to do the little things right and have more energy and fun on the field together.”
Jayden- “My overall goal would be to build a family within the program where everyone feels confident within themselves and others. Winning is always fun but it’s hard to be successful without a firm foundation.”
Ellie- “My goal this season was to make everyone feel like they have a place to belong on the team and continue to pick everyone up when they are down.”
- Do you have any advice for current and/or future softball players?
Lydia- “My advice would be to have a short memory, softball is a very mentally challenging sport and controlling your mindset and attitude can make all the difference.”
Jayden- “Have fun and work hard. The connections you make with your teammates are very special and something that can last forever. This sport teaches you more than just softball.”
Ellie- “Don’t overthink it, just have fun. I used to stress over softball so much but you just have to remember, it’s a fun sport you love to do.”
