New Green Club
January 14, 2016
Shortly before the beginning of winter break, a small group of students advised by chemistry teacher Mr. Kalmi assembled to form EHS’s brand new Green Club.
The Green Club has two main goals for the school. The first is to get a recycling bin in every classroom. Their other goal is to clean up the garbage around EHS at least once a month.
Kalmi says, “The students have some goals that they have set out to accomplish. They want to promote a green message here at Eagan and make sure anything that can be recycled here at EHS is.”
Kalmi lets the students take charge of the meetings and goals on their own. He says, “The student who came to me about the idea was Max Clark. He had a list of students who would be interested in starting a club. He asked me to be the advisor for it and I said yes. I really have a very minimum role, and it’s all student-run. I just volunteer my room and my time.”
The Green Club is a great way to promote environmentally-friendly habits. Kalmi says, “I think this is a great idea and I’m glad to see so many students interested in environmental issues. The future is for the younger generations and I’m glad they want to try to do something now so that their kids have a better and more eco-friendly future.”
Green Club meets Mondays in room 285. If you are interested in joining, talk to junior Max Clark.
