We can all agree that the best time of the week at EHS is Friday at 9:20 AM when the PAWS treats are wheeled, flown, parachuted, or simply carried into our home rooms. But unfortunately, like any communal responsibility, respect for the sacred treats from both under and upperclassmen alike is threatened weekly. With that in mind, here are some Do’s and Don’t’s of bringing and taking PAWS Treats.
Do’s
1. Communicate the Situation
The most important part of PAWS treats Friday is the treats themselves. It can be hard to get them, and depending on what you’re getting, they can be expensive. If you don’t think you’ll be able to bring them for whatever reason, let your PAWS and your PAWS teacher know so they can either plan accordingly or face a less massive disappointment walking in.
2. Set an Alarm
Like many other responsibilities, it can be easy to forget PAWS treats. A good idea to make sure you remember, is to set an alarm the night before to go off as you leave or while you’re heading to school. It might seem unnecessary, but it really can go a long way in making sure you bring those treats.
3. Be Respectful if You Don’t Like the Treats
Not everyone has the same taste or the same budget for treats. If you don’t like what’s brought, it can be disappointing, but by keeping your complaints to yourself, you can help foster a better community in your PAWs. Plus, you won’t run the risk of making the person who brought the treats feel bad.
4. Thank the Person Who Brought Treats
A thank you can go a long way in making someone’s day, and the act of bringing PAWS treats is an important act of servitude that deserves acknowledgment. Be the person who is gracious and polite.
Don’ts
1. Don’t budge the line
With how popular treats are, there are bound to be people lining up to get some. Don’t step in front of someone else because you’re impatient. It’s just rude.
2. Don’t Fight Over the Treats
The chocolate donut is the best, we get it, but if you’re waging war on your fellow PAWs-mate for it, it’s not worth it. Talk it out, come to a compromise, and try not to be disruptive. PLEASE. Too much blood has been spilled already.
3. Don’t Take Too Many
Make sure when you’re getting your treat of the day, that you leave some for the other people in your PAWS. Taking eight muffins at once will make you the number one most hated person in your PAWS when the rest of the muffins run out. Don’t take more than your share, and maybe you’ll get ‘seconds’ after.
4. Don’t Forget the PAWS Treats at Home
This is the most important thing about our Fridays. Do not -under penalty of public shaming- forget the treats. We will know, and you will suffer for it.
PAWS treats are definitely one of the best things about Eagan, and hopefully, these Do’s and Don’ts will make our Fridays a little more fun. The responsibility of the community is what keeps this going, and we like our Friday morning snacks more than anything else.
