Dec. 11 was the date that the 2025 Game Awards occurred. The Game Awards is an annual award show, voting on people’s favorites of 2025. The first-ever Game Awards was in 2014, founded by Geoff Keighley. Hundreds of thousands viewed the 2025 event through YouTube, where it can also be rewatched.
Following last year’s Game of the Year, Astro Bot, the 2025 nominees were Kingdom Come: Deliverance II, Hollow Knight: Silksong, Hades II, Donkey Kong Bananza, Death Stranding 2: On The Beach, and the winner of the 2025 Game of the Year, Clair Obscur: Expedition 33. The game gained great traction among many gamers, from solo players to big streamers. Its Steam rating is a 10/10, and PlayStation rating is a 4.5/5. The game follows six characters in a dark-fantasy setting, Gustave, Lune, Sciel, Maelle, Monoco, and Verso, being able to choose between them in combat; however, Gustave is the primary central character. The game had a total sales count of around 6 million this year, being the bestselling game out of all nominees for Game of the Year.

The main game awards weren’t the only ones, however. The horror game awards were a big one as well, taking place on Dec.13, two days after the primary Game Awards. The nominees for Game of the Year for the horror awards had several games, including Escape the Backrooms, Out of Sight, Miside, No; I’m not a human, and the overall winner, Silent Hill F. The game was nominated for many game awards as well, but didn’t win in any of the other categories. Silent Hill F is a Japanese-based survival game that was released on Sept. 22 and reached over 1 million sales in just a couple of days, being especially popular among streamers and horror enthusiasts alike.

I’d say this year’s Game Awards were a success, leaving many voters happy even if their top choice didn’t win. In my opinion, all the winners were deserving of their awards, and the Game Awards continues to have another year of success.
