Teachers Participate in Pancake Breakfast Fundraiser

The morning of Saturday, February 28th marked the annual Band Boosters Pancake Breakfast. Each year, approximately 150-200 people show up, and this year’s event was no exception.

The Pancake Breakfast is used as a fundraiser for the Band Booster Club. All the proceeds from this event go into their general fund. The Band Boosters then use that money to support the band program in a variety of ways throughout the year.

Mr. Benson of the band department says, “The Pancake Breakfast is special because it allows our Eagan Band community to raise money to help our students while also having a great social experience and building camaraderie within the program. As band students and families get more opportunities to spend time together, the deeper their connection to music and the band program becomes.”

There are a variety of things that go on during the event. Benson states, “This year we had a host of celebrity ‘flippers’ that were asked to come be a part of the event, flipping pancakes and tossing them in the air  for students and families to catch.”

The celebrity pancake flippers included a variety of teachers from EHS. The event also had beverages and toppings for the pancakes. A company called Trivia Mafia also hosted a trivia game during the event for entertainment.

This year brought changes to the event. Benson explains, “In previous years we hired a company to make the pancakes and flip them to the students. The company was expensive to bring up here from Iowa, so the Band Boosters redesigned the event to lower costs by having the band directors and selected EHS teachers be flippers. It was more work for the boosters this year than in the past, but in terms of saving money we saved a lot by not hiring that company to come and do it for us.”

Regardless of who flips the pancakes, the event sounds like a great way to get to know other students and families in the band program. Many people enjoyed having their favorite teachers join them in this event.
