The girls’ basketball season has been in full swing for several months now, which has given Senior captain Dani Bischoff ample time to establish herself as one of the best players in the South Suburban Conference and to be awarded the Athlete of the Month for January. Dani currently leads her team in both points and rebounds per game, and comes in at second and eighth place respectively in the conference for each of those categories.

Her leadership doesn’t end on the court, however. According to fellow senior and captain Abby Gaedtke, she also keeps the team organized and makes sure that they execute drills that they work on in practices correctly. Her performance during games is incredibly motivating to her teammates as well.

Syd Funk, another senior member of the Girls’ Basketball team commented, saying that, “When she starts scoring, she gets the rest of the team going and makes it easier for them to score.” “Without her, we wouldn’t be nearly as good as we are now”, Abby went on to say.

The amount of success that Dani is experiencing this year isn’t too much of a surprise if you look at her performances in past years. She was sixth in her conference in scoring just last season as a Junior and she’s been a member of the Varsity team for three years.

When asked what the root of her success this season has been, Dani attributed much of it to her teammates. “All the other people on the team are who has made it possible for me to do well this year”, she said.

As far as the remainder of the season goes, Dani stated that she feels pretty good about their chances of making it to the Section final, but that personally she would like to make it even further, to the State tournament. With the way that she’s been playing lately, it certainly isn’t a long shot for her to lead her team deep into the post-season and to accomplish her goal of making it to State.
